Environmental, Social & Governance (“ESG”) is increasingly gaining traction as the buzzword in 2021 and more stakeholders are sitting up and taking notice when corporate governance matters are discussed. Stakeholders understand that good corporate governance has a real impact on the sustainability and long-term prospects of businesses, and are receptive to methods of improving corporate governance. To this end, a good whistleblowing policy is no longer just “nice to have”, but is an integral part of a business’ long-term strategy. This article seeks to shed light on the efficacy of the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 in Malaysia in improving corporate governance.

Floating solar farm in Singapore
Rajah & Tann Singapore is acting for the EPC contractor to construct a 60MWp cutting edge floating solar farm in Singapore that incorporates smart technologies into the system. The floating solar farm is expected to generate enough energy to power about 16,000 four-room public housing flats in Singapore.

Teesta’s solar plant in Bangladesh
Rajah & Tann Singapore is advising Teesta, the project owner of a 280 MWp / 200 MWAC solar PV plant in Bangladesh on the structuring and drafting of the project documentation relating to the engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of the project. Teesta has signed a power purchase agreement with the Power Development Board, the public sector organization responsible for the power sector in Bangladesh.

World's first publicly offered sustainability-linked bonds by a university
Rajah & Tann Singapore advised Nanyang Technological University on the establishment of its S$1 billion multicurrency medium term note programme, and its subsequent issuance of S$650 million 2.185% sustainability-linked notes.

Rajah & Tann Asia clinched multiple accolades at the asialaw Awards 2021 including Singapore and Indonesia Firm of the Year.
Rajah & Tann was also recognised as the Dispute Resolution Firm of the Year, Aviation and Shipping Firm of the Year, and Insurance Firm of the Year for the Asia-Pacific region.
A sixth award involved Thai Airways’ US$12.9 billion debt restructuring, which received asialaw’s Editor’s Choice Impact Deal and Case Award. R&T Thailand was one of the firms involved in the negotiations to help Thailand’s flag carrier emerge from bankruptcy.

Rajah & Tann Singapore has been awarded the Impact Deal of the Year at the Managing IP Asia-Pacific Awards 2021. The firm was recognised for its work done in I-Admin v Hong Ying Ting, where our partners, Lee Eng Beng, SC and Sheng Rong Tng successfully represented I-Admin in their claims for breach of confidence against their former employees.
